IN MEMORY: HENRY COPPOLILLO, M.D. (1926-2008)
Professor Emeritus-Board of Advisors
Senior Clinical Psychiatric Consultant
The Institute and the psychiatric community lost one of the true hero’s in the field of child psychiatry with the recent passing of “Hank” Coppolillo.
Since the inception of the Institute, Dr. C was an advocate of the family system approach and supported the techniques of individual, group and family psychotherapy with less reliance on medication contamination utilized in the Institute. <
His appreciation of the vigorous and productive milieu was always a point of feedback for students in training as an example of excellent care. His teaching/consultation seminars and Grand Round discussions were popular and provided vigorous explorations for staff and clinicians. Always his focus was to encourage the best treatment for our patients.
He has left the standards of care and the art of ethics as permanent reminders to do what is right for patients, above all else, to do what is right for our patients. His love for the process of therapy has impacted us forever.
As Professor Emeritus and former Chairman-Dept. of Psychiatry, many of those practicing psychiatry in Colorado were his students. His seminal textbook: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy of Children has been an important and essential keystone in the training and supervision of clinicians.
The professional Library of the Institute is dedicated to the vision and experiences given to us as friends and colleagues of Dr. Henry Coppolillo.
